Bankruptcy Law Everybody makes mistakes and nobody is perfect. These are two things that you have probably been hearing for your entire life, and there is a good reason for that, both of those things are true. Bankruptcy laws, along with any other laws, exist to protect citizens from corporations, each other, themselves, or anything else that can put them into harm’s way. The number of people that mishandle their finances in the United States is in no way a small amount, so bankruptcy law is there to assist people in need. For those of you that have not had too much exposure to bankruptcy laws, we have listed a few of their purposes below.
1. Save lives – This may be an over-dramatic way of putting it, but bankruptcy law really does give people a second chance at life. If it were not for many of the bankruptcy laws that have been put in place, many people would be homeless or living off scraps due to the mistakes you have made. Bankruptcy law, in essence, says that people should not have their entire lives dictated by a few misjudgments on their part, and everybody that has been given another shot will agree with that sentiment 100%.
2. Protect debtors – Creditors can be relentless when it comes to repaying any debts that are owed to them. So that these organizations will not have a chance to harass debtors or intimidate them in any way, certain bankruptcy laws have been put into place. There is one specific bankruptcy law that says once a debtor files for bankruptcy, it becomes illegal for creditors to continue contacting them. Bankruptcy laws such as this have been huge stress relievers to those that have been hounded by these organizations for a long period of time.
3. Help those that need it – There are many types of bankruptcy laws that come into play, depending on the person that is filing for bankruptcy. For example, there is a bankruptcy law for people that would like to have their debt erased completely. When a Chapter 7 is filed, the debtor no longer owes any money to their creditor, but their credit score will be damaged severely and assets may be repossessed if the payments are not being kept up with. For people that are behind on their car or house payments, bankruptcy laws such as Chapter 13 are available. Because of the existence of this bankruptcy law, people are given another five years to pay back their debt.
It should now be pretty obvious why these bankruptcy laws were put into place. As said before, people do make mistakes. It would be unfair and even cruel to make them suffer for their entire lives because of a few mistakes. Bankruptcy law is providing people with hope in situations where they might not have found it otherwise. We should all be thankful that these bankruptcy laws are there for our own safety and well-being.
